In the past few weeks, layoffs got announced by several companies such as Uber, Zomato and Swiggy. Zomato has reduced 13 percent of its 4,000-employees, while Swiggy said it would cut 1,100 employees. Now in a fresh controversy, Ola has decided to reduce its workforce.
Ola, a company, providing online cab/taxi booking services in India, is dismissing its 1400 employees. Ola CEO Bhavesh Agarwal has given this information to his employees. Earlier, Ola’s rival Uber had also announced layoffs of more than 3000 employees worldwide due to the Covid 19 epidemic. The coronavirus crisis has affected the livelihoods of millions of our drivers and their families across the world.”
In an email sent to the Ola employees, Bhavesh Agarwal made it clear that the future of Ola business is very unclear and uncertain. Indeed, the impact of this coronavirus epidemic crisis will affect business for a long time. In the mail, the message got conveyed that impact of the virus has been very bad for our industry. The revenues of Ola have decreased by 95 per cent in the last two months.

The biggest thing is that this crisis has affected the livelihood of millions of our drivers and their families. This is the reason why the company has decided to lay off 1,400 employees. However, those employees fired will be given a full salary for three months. At the same time, medical and life insurance will also get facilitated to these people till December 31.
This news has come at a time when Ola has resumed its service in 160 cities in India after partial relaxation in lockdown. The lockdown got implemented across the country from March 25 because of which Ola’s service got postponed. The coronavirus crisis has taken a toll on the livelihood of people working across different domains of businesses. The future of transport and logistics remain uncertain in India due to the ongoing crisis.
